Anatomy Of A Song:  Best Music Feature 2016 NZ Radio Awards

We were all pretty darn stoked with this result for all our efforts in creating Anatomy of a Song.

Happy days and awesome timing all round really. The awards ceremony was in May, just before wrapping up my time in Christchurch before heading north, and RDU was celebrating their 40th birthday. Big hugs to Spanky, Rachel and James.  We pulled it off :)

Here's a cool example of an episode form the series:

Anatomy Of A Song – Season 2 On Air

87ab3cfbad617386-AOAS.jpg

Last year I worked with RDU to produce the first series of this unique radio adventure, which played on RDU and also Radio New Zealand National during Music 101 on Saturday arvo.  They liked it so much that they wanted more, so here we go again this year with series 2!

As I write this we are half way through the broadcast schedule, so you can already check out the first 6 episodes at this link... HERE, and as time goes on they will all be uploaded.
Series 1 is also HERE if you want to check that out.

The episodes give you a glimpse into the recording and creative processes that go into the songs - and a pretty unique chance to hear the songs de constructed before your very ears.  We've had some great feedback from listeners and the bands themselves.

The list of artists we've had on board includes The Phoenix Foundation, Ladi 6, Opiou, Beastwars, Lawrence Arabia, Marlon Williams, Delaney Davidson, Trinity Roots, Tiny Ruins and many more.

Enjoy! ...and big uppity ups to my partners in this crime, Rachel Morton and Spanky Moore XXX

Music Is Sport on National Radio

Last year I worked with my main padre Joshua 'Spanky' Moore to create the Music Is Sport radio serial for RDU 98.5FM.  We had a huge amount of fun putting it together and they came out great, so we were especially stoked when we heard that Radio NZ wanted to play them nationally!

The catch was that the twelve 15 minute epsodes needed to be condensed into two 30 minute episodes!  Sheesh, we thought, but none the less battled on with the relentless cull, till we finally had them in our sweaty wee palms.  Two golden eggs of goodness.

You can check them out streaming on RNZ's website HERE

And for the enthusiasts out there, the entire uncut series, which has a ever so slightly different leaning can be found here on RDU's mixcloud page

This is the second production I've been involved in with RDU that has been broadcast on National Radio, the first being A Flat City, which gathered voices of the Christchurch music scene after the 2010 and '11 Canterbury earthquakes.

A Flat City to play on Radio New Zealand National

I recently received news that Radio NZ National is going to be playing selected episodes of 'A Flat City', a radio documentary I produced and mixed for RDU98.5FM.

A lot of effort was put into these docos, not only from my end, listening through hours of material and editing a cohesive story, but also from the team at RDU who relentlessly missioned around the city interviewing everyone!  So a big high five to all the team who worked on this.

As yet I'm unsure of the times or dates they'll play on air, but all the episodes can also be listened to at RDU's Mixcloud page HERE. (They're on page 5 and 6... you'll have to skip to them)

To find out a bit more about A Flat City, check out my news entry up the page a bit...

Music Is Sport - That’s a wrap!

I've just finished mixing the last episode of RDU's radio documentary series, 'Music Is Sport'.

I know that I've already written about this in my blog, but hey, it a celebration that it's finished, and I'm very proud of the result.  It's a 12 part documentary series that tries to work out why musicians REALLY do what they do!  Witty and slightly subversive, the episodes take a tounge in cheek scientific approach.

Conceived and Produced by the effervescent Spanky Moore!

If you missed them when they played on air you can head on over to the mixcloud page by following this link...

Music Is Sport – Episode 1 ‘The Competition’

Music Is Sport.jpg

Here's the first episode of the new series I've been working on with Spanky Moore, breakfast host on RDU 98.5FM.  We're having a lot of fun putting it together and it's shaping up to be a pretty interesting series... here's the official blurb from RDU's mixcloud site where you'll be able to listen to the whole series as they are broadcast.  They play each week Wednesday at 4:30PM and Friday 9:15AM.

MUSIC IS SPORT | Our quest? To discover why musicians really do what they do.

Music Is Sport is a radio adventure in 12 bite sized episodes. Spanky Moore explores the science, psychology and sociology of bands and musicians through the lens of the RDU Roundup band competition. It's a bizarre yet strangely enthralling experience.

EPISODE ONE – THE COMPETITION: Musicians often claim that art isn’t a competition, but just how competitive are they in reality? And is a little bit of rivalry really such a bad thing anyway?

Featuring a small army of brutally honest guests – including Simon Grigg (ex-manager of True Bliss), Grayson Gilmour (So So Modern) & James Milne (Lawrence Arabia).

Music Is Sport isn’t like other boring radio documentaries about bands, and a number of musicians were emotionally damaged for your listening pleasure.

Produced & hosted by Spanky Moore, mixed by Jonny Pipe, crafted by RDU, and made with the support of NZ On Air.
